8 Years for Hawai`i Man Who Fatally Stabbed Mother

HONOLULU, OAHU (Ben Caxton) — A court has sentenced a man to 8 years in prison for fatally stabbing his mother when he was 16-years-old. Ka`anoi Kipapa stabbed his mother, Jolyn Kipapa, in the head and body with kitchen knives multiple times while she was confined to her bed with a leg injury. Defense attorney’s said that the boy had been beaten daily since he was a young child. The normal prison sentence for manslaughter is 20 years. Hawaii sentencing laws allow judges to impose lower penalties for defendants who were age 21 or younger when they committed their crimes. With credit for five years already served, the now 21-year-old Kipapa will be eligible for release in three years.
