KAILUA-KONA, THE BIG ISLAND (Ben Caxton) — An autopsy has confirmed what Big Island authorities feared. A 6-year-old trick-or-treater who died after being rushed to a fire station in Kailua was murdered. Kona patrol officers first responded to a call regarding the boy at the Kailua Fire Station on Halloween around 4:30 PM where family members had taken the child, who was unconscious at the time. He was transferred to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 5:30 PM. A press release issued yesterday says the autopsy revealed the cause of death “involved trauma” and concluded, “the manner of death is homicide.” Investigators believe he was injured in an incident at the Lailani Apartment complex in Kailua-Kona. Hawai`i police are continuing their investigation.
