Fire Chief Retires with No Successor in Sight

LIHU`E, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — The Fire Commission extended a “heartfelt mahalo” to Chief Robert Westerman for outstanding public service as they congratulated him on his retirement from the department after 20 years of service to the island. Fire Commission chair Thomas Nizo said Westerman set a high standard for the Kaua’i Fire Department and its firefighters and wished the chief good luck in his retirement. However, no replacement has yet been found for Westerman. The Fire Commission says only that it is continuing its search for a new fire chief, and adds that in the meantime the fire department is in good hands with the leadership that Chief Westerman has left behind.
