Hdot Extends Slope Work in Hanalei Bridge Area

HANALEI, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — The Hawai`i Department of Transportation says that after assessing the situation where a rock slide closed Kuhio Highway at the Hanalei Bridge, more work is needed. So, crews have resumed scaling the slope next to the highway at mile marker 1 to bring down unstable material. Traffic is being stopped for 454 minutes in both directions as the loose material tumbles down to the roadway below to be hauled away so traffic can resume before the next attempt.
