No Arrests As Kaua`i Curfew Goes into Effect

LIHU`E, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — The Kaua`i Police Department says they would like to thank the public for what they call an “overwhelmingly positive response” to the implementation of the curfew on Friday, and for voluntarily abiding by the requirements of the curfew. There were no observed violations between 9:00 PM Friday and 5:00 AM Saturday. KPD also wants to remind the public that the first and foremost responsibility of police officers continues to be to respond to serious criminal activity. Chief Raybuck says calls for police service are increasing due to the stressful nature of the global pandemic that originated in Wuhan, China. He adds police are doing their best to respond to issues presented due to the new measures, but must also continue to respond to emergencies. They are asking that the public consider the nature of thier concern and whether it’s an immediate risk to public safety before requesting police services.
