LIHU`E, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — Residents and visitors are reminded that the Kuhio Highway is going to be closed for the weekend. Crews will be working to replace the deck of Waipa Bridge. The work is set to begin at 9:00 PM Friday and will continue until completion around 5:00 AM Monday morning. Additional work continues through Thursday that will require closing the highway during the nighttime hours from 7:30 PM through 5:00 AM. The closures mean there will be no j/kvehicle traffic from one side of the bridge to the other. Instead, Park and Ride sites will be set up on either side of the closure, with pedestrians allowed to walk across the bridge. A shuttle between the Park and Ride and Wainiha General Store and Hanalei Colony Resort is available for residents and authorized Transient Vacation Rental guests. HDOT says the Park and Rides are there to provide access during the full closures and all vehicles remaining at this site when the road reopens for the day should be removed. Electronic signs are in place to inform the public of the planned closure and arrangements have been made with first responders for emergency staging during the closure.
