Library Collection Drive Kicks off Saturday

LIHU`E, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — Local groups are starting a collection drive this weekend with the aim of funding and building “Aloha Libraries” island-wide. As part of the Corporation for National and Community Service’s special initiative for the Martin Luther King Day of Service, Senior Corps members of the Kaua’i Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, RSVP Advisory Council, and members of Kaua’i Veterans Council will be holding two Saturday collection days on January 12th, and January 19th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at both the Kukui Grove Times Supermarket and Safeway in Lihu`e. Aloha Libraries will be constructed through efforts of volunteers from Kaua’i Veterans Council. Materials for the very first library were donated and constructed by RSVP Volunteer and veteran Jim Jung. Donations may also be dropped off or mailed to Kaua’i RSVP during normal business hours at 4444 Rice Street, Suite 330, in Lihu’e.
