Maui Corporation Counsel Resigns After Abuse Charge

WAILUKU, MAUI (Ben Caxton) — Maui’s chief government lawyer has resigned. County Department of Corporation Counsel Patrick Wong announced he was quitting at a press conference Tuesday without providing a reason. Wong’s resignation comes a month after he was charged in Wailuku with abuse of a household member. Maui Mayor Mike Victorino had been pressed to fire Wong during a visit to the University of Hawaii Maui College campus earlier in the day. Victorino accepted Wong’s resignation after reviewing the results of the police investigation into the charges. The state Attorney General’s office has declined to take the case against Wong to court.
