Mayor Signs Friendship Agreement with Candon City

LIHU`E, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — Several dozen people attended a friendship city signing ceremony between the County of Kaua’i and the City of Candon at the Mo’ikeha Courtyard in Lihu’e on Tuesday. Representing the municipality from the Philippines was Mayor Ericson Singson and his delegation from Candon City. Singson told Kaua`i Mayor Bernard Carvalho in front of the assembled guests that “the future is still unknown but our expectations are hopeful and positive.” A friendship city agreement is a stepping stone to a potential sister city agreement. The County of Kaua’i currently has five sister city agreements with the Philippines since 1991. Carvalho said he is the relationship may blossom into a sister city partnership where the two governments can “exchange ideas and learn, grow, and prosper in agriculture, the arts, and tourism.”
