Motorcyclist Dies Following Crash on Saturday

KAPAHI, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — A 34-year-old Kapa`a man has died following a Saturday morning motorcycle crash on Kawaihau Road, near the Kainahola Road intersection, in Kapahi. According to a preliminary investigation, the man was heading east on at approximately 10:20 AM when he apparently lost control, crossed the center line and struck an oncoming Nissan pickup truck. The motorcyclist was presumed dead at the scene and was later transported to Wilcox Hospital where he was formally pronounced dead. The victim’s identity has not yet been released. The 34-year-old driver of the pickup truck was not injured. The highway was closed for several hours while KPD’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation, and then reopened around 3:15 PM. The investigation remains ongoing.
