WAILUKU, MAUI (Ben Caxton) — Tourists and sports enthusiasts will have one day less per week to enjoy parks on Maui. The island’s Parks and Recreation Department announced they are banning commercial surfing, kayaking, scuba diving, windsurfing and kiteboarding lessons, as well as snorkeling tours. The changes to commercial permits will start being enforced in about a month. Mayor Michael Victorino said residents “feel pressured” because of the activity which he blamed on tourists. The Parks Department said the move will reduce damage to parks.
