Passengers Evacuated After Catamaran Strikes a Rock

LANAI (Ben Caxton) — Passengers on a catamaran that struck a rock in waters off Lanai Sunday had to be evacuated. The Coast Guard says the 63-foot vessel Kaulana had fifteen people on board, including three children, when it hit the rock around 9:00 am sustaining damage to its hull and rudder. Crews from nearby vessels, the Maui Princes and Quicksilver, responded quickly to aid the Kaulana, take on its passengers, and help escort the damaged catamaran to port.
