Rescuers Search for Missing Woman in Waters off Queen’s Bath

PRINCEVILLE, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — Rescuers are searching for a 23-year-old California woman in waters off Queen’s Bath in Princeville. Her identity has not yet been released. According to a preliminary report, the woman was attempting to climb the rocks near the area known as Queen’s Bath in Princeville, when a wave came up and swept her out to sea. Bystanders reported last seeing her unresponsive in the water. Hanalei firefighters, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and lifeguards on Jet Ski were dispatched to the scene shortly before noon on Wednesday. Kaua’i police also joined the search along with the U.S. Coast Guard. But so far there has been no signs of the victim. Queen’s Bath is known to be very dangerous, particularly in the winter months when the surf is high. A High Surf Warning has been in effect for the North Shore of Kaua’i since Tuesday, and the Queen’s Bath trailhead has been closed since last week.
