Six Injured in Sunday’s Kaumuali`i Highway Crash

ELE`ELE, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — The Sunday afternoon crash which closed Kaumuali`i Highway for a little over an hour resulted in six people being taken to the hospital. The collision, occurred shortly after 1:00 PM in Ele`ele, in the vicinity of the Hanapepe Valley Lookout. Police investigators say a silver Jeep that was traveling east attempted to make a U-turn in the middle of the highway, when an eastbound white Dodge pickup truck collided with the Jeep, causing the truck to overturn onto its passenger’s side. The four occupants of the Jeep and the two occupants of the truck sustained non-life threatening injuries and were treated and transported to Wilcox Hospital for further care.
