Traffic Crash Causes Brief Closure Of Kapa’a Bypass Road

KAPA`A, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — A Friday afternoon crash caused a brief closure of the Kapa`a Bypass Road. The incident happened around 5:00 PM when a 48-year-old Waimea man was driving a 2010 gray Hyundai Genesis northbound and crossed the center line striking a southbound 2006 white Ford F-150 head-on. A passenger in the pickup, a 6-year-old boy from Wailua, was treated by medics on scene and transported to Wilcox Hospital for further treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver, a 49-year-old Wailua man, was treated and released on scene. Kaua`i Police say there appeared to be no indications of driver impairment. The driver of the Hyundai was cited for crossing the double yellow line and driving without insurance.
