HANALEI, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — The Hawaii Department of Transportation will be closing Kuhio Highway at the Wai`oli Stream Bridge between Anae Road and Kumu Road in Hanalei from 11:00 PM to 5:30 AM next Wednesday. HDOT says the closure is necessary to restore the deck of the bridge to its original surface prior to bridge rehabilitation. First responders have been notified of the planned closure and will be escorted across the bridge if needed. All work is weather permitting. The Wai`oli Stream Bridge was built in 1912 and is currently ranked as number 26 on HDOT’s priority list of bridges in need of upgrade or repair.
