Diver Dies in Waters off Po`ipi Sunday

PO`IPU, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — Rescuers recovered a body of a 64-year-old diver in waters off Po`ipu on Sunday. The man’s identity has not yet been released. According to a preliminary report, KPD dispatched received a report of a boat hitting a diver at approximately 12:40 PM on Sunday. A dive flag or visible float were not present at the time of the incident, according to the report. Kaua`i Fire Department and Ocean Safety Bureau personnel responded within 10 minutes. The diver’s body was eventually located around 1:20 PM and transported by Ocean Safety Bureau officials to Shipwreck’s Beach. AMR medics took over advanced resuscitation efforts while in transport to Wilcox ER where he was pronounced dead.
