Kaua`i to Become Home to Space Force Squadron

BARKING SANDS, KAUA`I (Ben Caxton) — Calling someone a “Space Cadet” on Kaua`i may not be a bad thing someday soon. The Hawai`i Air National Guard has announced plans to start selecting candidates for a new space control squadron to be based out of the Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands. Selections will start in April for the new 293rd Space Control Squad whose mission it will be to protect and defend satellite communication systems. The squad is one of only four so far to be announced across the U.S. The other three space control squadrons are in Florida, Colorado, and California. So far, Hawai`i has no “Space National Guard” but that may not be for long, either.
